Beukenhof Crematorium

Designers: Asymptote

The multicultural society makes the Netherlands interesting for foreign architects. The New York-based architecture bureau Asymptote, a mix of Egyptian, Italian, French and British nationalities, designed this crematorium and auditorium at the Beukenhof Cemetery in Schiedam. It consists of a flowing space that is optimally flexible, so that all the world religions can celebrate their death cults here. This refreshing design demonstrates that it is an architecture firm can introduce something that surpasses the Dutch grave culture and the existing, worn-down funerary rules. Asymptote elevates the eternal farewell to a cultural and religious ritual.
